Our guest today is Penny Spirou. An arts critic for AU Review, and arts administrator for various organisations, university lecturer, tutor and popular music PhD – these days Penny works for The Tax Institute where she is the learning technology coordinator. We’ve known Penny since the ‘before times’ (before kids) and when she was also the treasurer of IASPM ANZ – the Australia/New Zealand Association for the Study of Popular music. We’re thrilled to have her here to catch up, as well as get some recommendations from her (and her little people).

Kelly-Dawn Hellmrich – Music Mothers and Others
Kelly-Dawn Hellmrich is a musician, music industry member and author of the excellent new book It’s Not For You: Inside the artists rewriting the rules of the Australian music scene. With interviews from the who you already know, and who you really SHOULD know of Australian music, the book showcases the stories, sounds and perspectives that are not as often considered in the Oz Music sphere. Also a mum and member of the broader village, with us she talks about raising kids, breaking down gates and what it might be like if we all thought outside the box a bit more. Currently on break as a musician (her band Camp Cope said goodbye a while back), we also talk about what the next steps might be.
